What will I learn?

Birth Evolved Birth Prep Course is a live online group class taught over 5 weeks, 2 hrs per class with an online course platform and standalone community. The community has it’s own URL and is a safe space to learn and grow without the distraction of social media.

Birth Evolved’s Birth Prep Course prepares the mind in order to prepare the body for a comfortable and calm birth AND transition into your new role as a parent. Childbirth education hasn’t changed in the past 35 since the beginning of HypnoBirthing, which was revolutionary for its time. However, our knowledge and awareness of the human body and mind has evolved so much since then, yet birth classes remain unchanged and are all taught with the same perspective and content, perhaps a technique or two different depending on the method. AND we are still seeing the same issues come up in birthing and postpartum, such as lack of preparedness for the challenges of birthing, especially if birthing takes an unexpected turn, and a crisis of identity and support in the postpartum journey, leading to anxiety and isolation. Birth Evolved treats birthing as part of a continuum and not an isolated event. Who you are now impacts how you will experience birthing and the choices you will make. Both of those things will influence your postpartum period. With organized, simple, and clear lessons, Birth Evolved integrates the birthing experience into the before and after period so that you have a smooth transition into parenthood, free to enjoy the small moments that make it all so worth it.

To address these ongoing issues, Birth Evolved has created a new childbirth class utilizing what we know now about the human mind and body to give you a clear and joyful path through pregnancy, birthing, and the postpartum parenthood journey. This is accomplished through:

  • A step by step system taking you through the mental and physical transition into parenthood, forming a new strong sense of self and connection to your partner.
  • Getting the right info about your body, your baby’s body and birth.

  • Easing anxiety and fears through fear release and relaxation techniques, training your brain for how to want to feel.

  • Preparing the body by practicing breathing and positions.

  • Educating your support person or people in your wants and needs.

  • Finding connection and a community of support so that you are never alone.

The Birth Evolved Method

“It is not only that we want to bring about an easy labor, without risking injury to the mother or the child; we must go further. We must understand that childbirth is fundamentally a spiritual, as well as a physical, achievement. The birth of a child is the ultimate perfection of human love.”

~Dr. Grantly Dick-Read, 1953

What You Will Learn in Birth Evolved Classes

Birth Evolved’s Birth Prep Course is taught in a format of five, 2-hour classes.

Class 1 – Birth + Parenthood Foundations

Shifting Identities: You’ve heard the “everything changes” when you have a baby. It’s true because how we think of ourselves changes in this journey and that in turn, changes our experience of life. We will learn how our brains change in pregnancy and parenthood and how this leads to a shift in our identities and how to avoid an identity crisis!

Cataloguing the Cool: What do you love most about yourself? What brings you joy? What do you love about the relationships in your life? These are the parts of you that we want to bring in to your birth journey and postpartum period! Instead of feeling like you’re losing them, you can hold onto, cherish, and grow these parts of you with intention.

Values: What rules do you live by? When we dive deep and examine our values, we can decide if those are the values we want to keep moving forward, or if we’d like to take this opportunity to upgrade those values to reflect who we are and where we are going. These values will then be used to create our Rules for Living (birthing & parenting), a way to know that you will make the right choice (super quickly) when faced with ANY decision. This frees up so much energy and time and will give you a sense of purpose, motivation, and cohesion throughout your life.

Awareness + Affirmations: As we discover new possibilities in birthing and parenthood, how do we make positive changes? How do we begin to manage stress, anxieties, fears and whatever else is standing in our way for the birth and postpartum experience we desire? In this section, we will learn (and create!) tools to do just that.

Class 2 – The Journey into Birthing and Parenthood

Understanding the Mind + Body in Birth and Postpartum: In this section, we learn about the mind-body connection and how we can use that knowledge to change our experience of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

Baby’s Prenatal Mind + Co-Creating the Experience: In this section, we will explore: What is baby learning in utero? How can we prepare baby for life outside the womb now?

Physical changes in Pregnancy, Birth, and Postpartum: As you already know, your body is changing! What’s happening and how can we help it stay healthy and strong.

Goal Oriented Growth: What’s the best way for each of us to move towards our pregnancy, birth, and postpartum goals? How do we keep moving forward and feeling a sense of accomplishment?

Navigating + Integrating Change: Change can be uncomfortable! This class is largely about change, yet we often resist it. As we move towards our goals, we explore how we can navigate change so that we keep learning, growing, and feeling fulfilled.

Warning Signs: What to look out for in pregnancy, labor, and postpartum.

Additional Support Options: Who you can turn to and who can you hire for additional support and help. You don’t want to be left wondering what your options are! It’s so helpful to know what support options are out there and how to get help when you need it.

Care + Community Postpartum: Planning for your postpartum experience

Connecting With Your Partner: Relationships change in the postpartum period. They can indeed be strained, but they can also strengthen and grow!

Hours —> Years Postpartum + Following Your Best Path: There is a person and a book around every corner telling you how you “should” be parenting and what your baby “should” be doing. Here’s how to follow what’s right for you and your baby and access resources when needed.

Postpartum Audio

5 weeks ago little Coco joined us. As expected, I ended up being induced. I was super stressed out about the situation as I felt I was losing control and that I would again not get the experience I was looking for. On top of all, I ended up having to go to CPMC as UCSF was full – a hospital known for its high intervention.

And guess what? I had an AMAZING, natural, calm, and quick birth. Baby arrived in 4h, we were left alone to do our thing, Carl was awesome support and I felt 100% in control. No need for any help from the hospital or resources and recovery has been easy and quick.

Thank you for your amazing support in preparing for this. I really got the birth I wanted and I’m so happy about it!

Thank you!
